You better watch out,

Woo hoo! Our Christmas cards are designed and printed.
Not sent, yet!
Remember, my Christmas season doesn't end until Jan. 6.

Thanks for the great photos, Brekke!

Kai's Science Fair Project

Preparing for the science fair has been a bit stressful, but now it's done. Hooray!!

Which Wal-Mart brand soda is the fizziest?

The diet cola will be the fizziest.

  1. Drop 2 Mentos into each bottle of soda (diet Cola, diet Dr. Thunder, Cola, Diet Twist Up, Twist Up, Dr. Thunder, Root Beer, Ginger Ale, Mountain Lightning).
  2. Record and measure height of explosion.

Diet Cola was our first explosion.  It was set off before we could record the results. Fortunately, it splashed the board, which marked the height of 33 inches.

Diet Twist up has the most fizz, giving the highest explosion (39 inches), with six inches more than the next fizziest sodas.

The soda with the least amount of fizz:
 Mountain Lightning (1 inch)

What a wimpy little fountain!
I love how the measuring stick/board turned out!!
 Thanks, Honey!

Mad as a Hatter

Coby's class performed a portion of Alice in Wonderland.
Coby was the Mad Hatter of his group.
This video is was done prior to the live performance.

During the performance for parents, he got into character. He crossed his eyes or moved them around crazy. He spoke in a helium induced sounding voice or a deep dopey one. It made him the best Mad Hatter of the bunch. I wish I had gotten video of it.

Malt O Meal Head

This is what happens when I leave my child alone with a bowl of Malt O Meal.

What did he do, stick his head in the bowl?

Little Biker Dudes

Liam and DJ raided the costume closet. Liam ran down stairs and excitedly told me:

L: Mom, this jacket is a 4T. I'm 4. And DJ's jacket is a 2T, and he's 2. These are perfect for us! Where's Kai and Coby's jackets?

M: You're wearing them. These used to be theirs when they were your age.

L: Oh, I'm glad they're ours now.

Gettin' ready to ride

Owning the road

They wouldn't leave the house without donning their jackets. And they didn't come off when we went to story time at the library.

While looking for books in a dark corner, another little boy started crying and Liam stood there clutching a book with a look on his face that said "I'd like to see you try and take this book". So rebellious! ;)

All that ridin' wore him out

Election Day

Junior Dems
The boys voted in their classes
I asked who they voted for and why

K: Obama.
Because he is already President and knows what to do.

C: Romney. Actually, I marked Romney, but I meant to vote for Obama. I thought I was supposed to mark out the one I didn't want.
Because he cares about the country and the nation, and he's fair.

Jake went first thing this morning to vote. He waited for over an hour. I would have gone immediately after dinner, however there was projectile vomit to clean up. I didn't leave the house til 7:35 p.m., but I was back home by 7:50.

Ten Years of Halloween with kids

Farm Girl & Prize Winning Pig

Little Girl & her Teddy bear
This was the first piece of clothing from a pattern that I had ever completed. A few people asked if I was Dorothy or Little Bo Peep, which made me realize that I can reuse this dress for different characters.

Three Ducks and Clifford, the big red dog.
Coby won Best Baby Costume at our Ward party.

Batman & Robin with Poison Ivy
Jake was supposed to be Scarecrow

Kai as a Cat  with his Joy School Friends
I honestly can't remember what Coby was or if I even dressed up.

Kai: Wizard & Coby: Cat
I guess I was a girl again. Oh, right! I was Shell Bell
A Witch with three Cats

Percy Jackson theme
We'll pretend Jake was Poseidon

I was going to use my green dress to go as an elf, but time got away from me.

Halloween 2012

Two of Mr. Popper's Penguins: Captain Cook & Stinky

The Spider & Little Miss Muffet

Norbert "Shaggy" Rogers and a portrait with the villan's eyes watching
Jake got this shirt online from Digital Dudz. I simply cut the eyes out, then Jake taped his phone to the back of the shirt to add the moving eyes. Coby was proud of his dad's Creepy costume.

Hellooo Betsy!

Betsy van Mini

With her addition to the household, we have become a part of the mini van masses.
At least, she has cool features that our family minivan did not have when I was a youth.
  • two sliding doors, not just one, and they open with a press of a button.
  • roll-down windows in the sliding doors. The boys were not impressed, like I was. They don't remember what it was like to try and get air to circulate through those pop latch windows.
  • seats that stow flat into the floor.
  • multi-zone climate control. Jake likes to be cooler than I do. On our way to California for Christmas, I'm usually huddling under a blankie to stay warm. Unless, I'm driving. Now, we can both be comfortable.
  • radio controls on the steering wheel.
  • limo lights
  • DVD player holders
She has big tires to fill, but I'm sure with all her bells and whistles she'll accomplish it with ease.

Tea Time

Today's 5th grade curriculum enrichment activity was learning English Tea Etiquette.

First, they learned how to set their place & the use of each piece of silverware.
Then the courses began presented by the hostess (me).

  1. Tea (apple juice), scones (we had both American & English) and chocolate chip muffins.
  2. Savory course: ham & cheese, peanut butter & jelly, and cucumber sandwiches
  3. Sweet treats course: chocolate and lemon meringue drops.

Finally, the Tea Time Games

  • Tea Time Word Scramble - unscramble words related to tea time.
  • Stacking Sugar Cubes - how many sugar cubes can you stack in 10 seconds.
  • Guess the tea - smell a tea bag, what flavor is it.
A few of the boys were crafty and looked at the label, while the lady of the table carefully considered each and came up with a few correct answers.

Goodbye Ole Girl

This is B.B., short for Big Bertha.
We've had this lovely since Oct 2006, giving her a second life. Thanks to Ma & Pa Walkenhorst ;) Back then it seemed so ridiculous to drive around with just our little family of four.

But all those extra seats were her greatest asset, even after we filled two of them. She has been the workhorse of the family, getting all of us to where we need to go to enjoy time together as a family.
  • comfy and roomy trips to Las Vegas and Napa
  • carpooling to and from school, and fun, local places like Thanksgiving Point.
  • hauling furniture
Her greatest adventure was our cross country trip to Virginia, taking us to many wonderful sites

Rawlings, WY
Cheyenne, WY
Mormon Trail Center at Historic Winter Quarters in Omaha, NE
Liberty Jail in Liberty, MO
Nauvoo, IL
Superhero Museum in Indianapolis, IN
This is the only good picture, because we accidentally used the flash.
 I'll miss
  • feeling like Queen of the Road, sitting high up on my throne, surveying the path before me with ease.
  • the power and dominance.
  • her gentle roar as she pulled up to the house, & knowing my family is back from an outing.
  • our recognizability.
A fond farewell to our Beauteous Beast!
